Overview

This qualification is intended for students who have limited or basic skills in English and wish to undergo study to progress to Pre-intermediate

Graduates will have the following English language skills:

  • Student can usually use present and some past tenses for all sentence types when writing, speaking and answering assessment questions.
  • Student can understand graded English with limited vocabulary on every day, concrete items.
  • Can write paragraphs with simple vocabulary and limited tenses – present, past and some future.
  • Can understand simple, careful, spoken English and respond in phrases with limited intelligibility.
Completion of this certificate will allow students to progress to Pre-intermediate certificate.

Course Requirements

Entry Requirements

Pre-entry placement test including:
  • Grammar, vocabulary, listening, reading, writing and speaking.
  • NZCEL Level 1 - A1 CEFR grade scale descriptors.
Learning Outcomes
  • Be more confident in social situations.
  • Have an expanded knowledge of NZ culture.
  • Achieve over 70% in end of course summative assessments.

Course Duration

  • 12 weeks
  • Monday to Friday
  • 20 classroom hours per week
  • 5 self-study hours per week

Assessment Schedule

  • Formative - submitting weekly
  • Summative - End of course (week 12)
