New Zealand

New Zealand is a small country, about the size of Great Britain or Japan. It is a country of beautiful landscape, mountain chains, volcanoes, beaches, lakes, fords and forests. The first human settlers in New Zealand were the Maori people who arrived about 800 years ago. The settlers fro Europe started arriving in New Zealand from about 1,800 onwards. The European settlers gave special recognition to Maori as the indigenous people of New Zealand and this understanding was shrined in the treaty if Waitangi signed by Maori and European representatives in 1940’. The Treaty of Waitangi respects and protects Maori customs and culture. Kingston International English College acknowledges and honours the Treaty of Waitangi and respects the cultural needs and protocols of the Maori people.
